Reading - A Form of Mindfulness

I love to read, I have for as long as I remember.  I have memories of my Dad reading me The Hobbit, I remember getting lost in Alice In Wonderland as a child, and have read both books several times since. 

Books are a journey, they are good for you - but not just for your mind.  Think about it.  You find a comfortable spot - a favourite chair, curled up in bed, lying out on a blanket in the sun.  These are physical elements of your being.  Your physical body is comfortable, it is relaxed, prepared as your mind readies for where words of another can take you.

As a child did you make blanket forts in your bed with a torch to read beneath after it was lights out?  Find that most cosy position for the journey ahead? I am sure it was not just me!

When embarking on your mindfulness journey, reading is something you can add to your day, or your week.  Enjoy a quiet moment, away from the stresses and busyness of life. A moment to relax just for yourself.
  • Grab a tea, coffee or wine!
  • Find a favourite spot
  • Block out the noise
  • And lose yourself - even if just for a chapter
My local op shop on Thursdays has all books for free - they get so many and this is how they clear some room.  And I just love picking up a few more books, know that these are more journeys for me to take.  Right now I have more journeys than time.. but damn.. so hard to resist a book!!

I also buy brand new books - especially from my favourite authors and new releases I am waiting for.

Whatever the way you get that next book - make it part of your mindfulness journey.  Take every moment for you.
