You can't pour from an empty cup - Unknown
This blog has been inspired by a new friend and the beginnings of a conversation on depression and anxiety.

There still seems to be a stigma when it comes to depression and anxiety, though in this world with words such as mindfulness, selfcare, self love, affirmations in everyday conversations we have definitely come a long way.  And this is so important as it can be a lonely journey for a lot of people.

I think I have mentioned before I was diagnosed with hereditary form of depression at about 18 and I chose a path of self care and self regulating.  I learned to recognise signs and my own actions that signified I was going to have a bad day, or a bad moment, maybe a bad week if I wasn't in tune with myself.

Everyone's internal warning signs are different.  A couple of mine were:
  • Grabbing my favourite pair of red boots before I even chose an outfit was an internal I needed to feel strong.
  • Counting as I did things - while putting out the knives and forks as I set the table, counting as I put on my socks and shoes before I left the house.

Recognising your own signs, and they can be subtle like grabbing a favourite pair of boots, is a really big thing to learn.  It took me a while to figure these out and once I did that I found my own self easier to manage.  I was able to act on these signs, do things to snap myself out or just take care in the journey till the phase moved through me.

Ignoring signs, for me, was not an option.  Acting on them made my depression and anxiety manageable, and I now have different signs, and I still listen.

Always remember, it is important to take time for you, to listen to yourself.

Selfcare Isn't Always Gentle

Selfcare isn't always about being gentle with oneself.  Sometimes we need to push ourselves from the moment we are in.  This was a lesson I taught myself yesterday.

I woke feeling blah, heavy in feelings, I really didn't want to get out of bed.  Contemplating a day off, talking myself into a break from my little business I am trying to get going, from responsibilities and my list of things to do.  While lying there sinking into my blahness, a voice in the back of my head told me that I needed shake this mood off me.

Was it easy? Not at all.  I could have easily stayed there, but I also knew I had so much I wanted to do.  Not needed, but wanted.  Staring at the ceiling I started giving myself an internal lecture.  Moving through my mood, processing, telling myself the emotions I was feeling were unjustified, unwarranted and I really needed to move my arse!!!  That lying there wasn't taking care of ME!  And it lead to the most productive day.

After all that I achieved I decided it was then time for some gentle selfcare, so I made myself some bath salts (recipe below), poured a glass of wine and enjoyed a pre dinner bath.

Bath salts are my favourite DIY! So easy - self indulgent - all about me - bath time!!!  All oils in recipe are from Eco Modern Essentials.

Lux Bamboo Glass Jar from Krysten Collective
12 Drops Frankincense
12 Drop Jasmine
Fractionated Coconut Oil
Dead sea salts

All I do is fill the jar 3/4 full of the salts, add a couple of tablespoons of the coconut oil then add my Jasmine and Frankincense..  iF you would rather have this for the shower as a scrub add more coconut oil for a wetter consistency to use on your skin.

When shopping at Krysten Collective please don't forget my discount code INSPIRE10 that you can use at checkout! Who doesn't love a discount!!

And now for a new FREEBIE - this has been created for you Aromatherapy lovers in mind!  Click the picture below to grab this gift!

An extra note.. Don't get me wrong, I do believe there are days we are just going to be blah, and we are to take care of what is going on, to take a day off life to be there.  However, I knew mine yesterday was worth the internal fight.

Do not use this scrub on your face as the dead sea salts are too rough.
